  91.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  92.        IRIS InSight software.

  94.        You can use the software installation instructions in the
  95.        _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to install this
  96.        product.  If you are installing this software for the first
  97.        time, the default subsystems are installed if you click the
  98.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  99.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  100.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  101.        the installation.

  137.        All of the subsystems for IRIS InSight can be installed
  138.        using IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to
  139.        the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e or the
  140.        installation instructions in the _P_e_r_s_o_n_a_l _S_y_s_t_e_m

  144.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  145.  
  146.        Your workstation must be running either release 4D1-5.3 or
  147.        4D1-6.1 in order to use release 2.3.2 of IRIS InSight.
  148.  
  149.        If you want to install the IRIS InSight viewer
  150.        (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._c_l_i_e_n_t) then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e,
  151.        _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _e_o_e_1._s_w._i_r_i_x__l_i_b,
  152.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._c_o_m_p_r_e_s_s_i_o_n, _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._c_o_m_m_o_n,
  153.        _d_m_e_d_i_a__e_o_e._s_w._a_u_d_i_o, _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_r__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, _c++__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b,

  155.        If you want to view any of the inline Inventor media objects
  156.        then you must install _i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__e_o_e._s_w._i_n_v_e_n_t_o_r.  If you want
  157.        to view any of the inline movie objects then you must
  158.        install _e_o_e_1._s_w._g_f_x__l_i_b. If you want to install the online
  159.        help (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t._b_o_o_k_s._h_e_l_p) for the IRIS InSight viewer then
  160.        you must install _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p along with the viewer.

  162.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  163.  
  164.        The IRIS InSight 2.X viewers are incompatible with the IRIS
  165.        InSight 1.0 books.  You will not be able to install the
  166.        older 1.0 books after a 2.X viewer is installed, due to
  167.        incompatibility rules during installation.  However, we have
  168.        no means of preventing users from mounting 1.0 books onto a
  169.        2.X viewer's filesystem.
  170.  
  171.        It is also possible to mount and access the 5.3 books from a
  172.        5.2 system, however the help for applications may not work
  173.        due to changes in the applications and documentation between
  174.        the two operating systems.  The same is also true for 5.2
  175.        help books being accessed from 5.3 applications.

  177.        2.6  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  207.        Important: Please read this section carefully. It details
  208.                   installation information specific to the IRIS
  209.                   InSight product.

  211.        2.6.1  _L_o_c_a_l__C_l_i_e_n_t__a_n_d__S_e_r_v_e_r  The default installation
  212.        configuration is to install the IRIS InSight Viewer and
  213.        Document Library on a single system.  The total size of the
  214.        viewer, glossary, and help is a little more than 11 Mb.
  215.        Installing additional books requires additional disk space.
  216.        If you have the disk space, this is the ideal configuration
  217.        since it gives the viewer fastest access to the book data.
  218.        See the Release Notes for products that contain books to
  219.        find out the disk space requirements for each book.
  220.  
  221.        2.6.2  _C_l_i_e_n_t__w_i_t_h__R_e_m_o_t_e__S_e_r_v_e_r  If several machines plan
  222.        on sharing all the books, helpmap files, and man pages via
  223.        NFS mounts then this is the configuration of choice.  To
  224.        install the IRIS InSight Viewer and Document Library on a
  225.        remote server and access the information from a local client
  226.        system, follow these steps:
  227.  
  228.          1.  On the server:
  229.  
  230.                a.  Install the complete IRIS InSight product image
  231.                    and all books.

  276.        Note:  If you have a version of the IRIS InSight Document
  277.               Library installed on your disk but want to mount the
  278.               books from the CD-ROM, you must remove all the
  279.               current IRIS InSight books (with the IRIX command
  280.               _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e) from your system and remove any
  281.               remaining files in /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y before
  282.               creating the symbolic link described in step 2.

  284.        If you wish to use the IRIS InSight Viewer and Document
  285.        Library from the CD-ROM and access the information from a
  286.        local or remote system, follow these steps:
  287.  
  288.          1.  On the system with the CD-ROM drive, insert the IRIS
  289.              InSight CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  290.  
  291.              If the drive is not mounted, use the System Manager to
  292.              mount the drive.  The most common mount point is
  293.              /_C_D_R_O_M.
  294.  
  295.              If the drive is mounted correctly, you should be able
  296.              to change directories to /_C_D_R_O_M and see all the files
  297.              in the IRIS InSight CD:

  379.        For sites with numerous IRIS machines running multiple
  380.        versions of the operating system, it may be advantageous to
  381.        devote one machine to being an InSight Document Server.
  382.        This server would contain all the books for the various OS
  383.        releases, and the clients would simply NFS mount the

  399.        appropriate books and help from that server.

  401.        To create a document server, start by installing the version
  402.        of InSight and all the books for the oldest OS version that
  403.        any client machine will want to mount.  For instance, if the
  404.        server will contain the 4.0.5, 5.2, and 5.3 books, then
  405.        install the 4.0.5 version of InSight and the 4.0.5 books
  406.        first.
  407.  
  408.        For 4.0.5 the books are installed in /_u_s_r/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y.
  409.        After they are installed move the "library" directory to
  410.        "4.0.5library" so that the next install doesn't remove the
  411.        books.  Later on after you have installed the other OS
  412.        bookshelves you may want to move the "4.0.5library"
  413.        directory to the location that the other library directories
  414.        will be under /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t.

  420.        Next install the 5.2 versions of InSight and the books.
  421.        Under 5.2 the books were installed in
  422.        /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_I_n_s_i_g_h_t/_l_i_b_r_a_r_y.  So after you have installed all
  423.        the 5.2 books you need to move the "library" directory to
  424.        "5.2library".  For 5.2 we added application specific help so
  425.        you also need to preserve the helpmap files that are
  426.        specific to 5.2 applications so go to /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e and move
  427.        the "help" directory to "5.2help".
